In the afternoon of October 09, 2015, in Da Nang, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Journalists’ Association, Vietnam Electricity and Central Power Corporation together held “Nationwide Journalism Awards for Communicative Messages on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy the 2014 Eight Round”.
The Journalism Awards was initiated by MOIT in 2007. Every year, the award attracts the participation of journalists and reporters from the central to local agencies in all different press types.
In 3 years, 2012, 2013 and 2014, over 700 works were submitted by various press agencies such as Vietnam Television, the Voice of Vietnam, the Voice of Ho Chi Minh City People; Tien Phong Newspapers, Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspapers, Laborer Newspapers, Construction Newspapers, Industry and Trade Newspaper, and local press agencies such as Radio and Television Broadcasting Stations in Quang Nam, Ninh Binh, Hai Phong, Bac Giang, Da Nang Police, Can Tho Newspapers, etc.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Viet Son, Deputy Director General, the General Directorate of Energy, Ministry of Industry and Trade appreciated the enthusiastic and active participation of reporters and journalists coming from all regions of the country. He emphasized: “Substantial contribution and active participation of media agencies are the major factors in raising the community’s awareness of energy saving, minimizing impacts of climate changes and promoting sustainable development”.

The Nationwide journalism awards for communicative messages on economical and efficient use of Energy 2014 received hundreds of works with the participation of numerous reporters, journalists and collaborators, information officers and professional members of the local and central press agencies. Through the preliminary evaluation round, 45 works of 4 types of media: television (10 works), radio (8 works), electronic newspapers (13 pieces) and newspapers (14 works) were selected to go forward to the final round.
Among the 32 authors and groups having been selected for the awards, the Prize Class A were given to 4 works (VND10 million each); Prize Class B to 8 works (VND7 million each); and Prize Class C to 12 works (each prize is worth VND5 million) and 8 consolation prizes (each prize is worth VND2 million).

In evaluation of the quality of the contesting works this year, Mr. Ha Minh Hue, Representative of Vietnam Journalists' Association said: "This year, the works cover various regions, sectors, issues of energy savings. The panel received the professional articles, reportage and TV, radio and electronic works which reflect the breath of life in the practice of energy savings. In particular, there are works whose discovery properties introduce good practice models and implementation methods with effectiveness ".

Mrs. Nguyen Tran Anh Thu – Reporter of Department of Social Issues, VOV2 Branch, the Voice of Vietnam said: “I am a young reporter and this is the first time I have participated and been awarded in the Nationwide Journalism Awards. This is a motivation for me to write more articles to propagandize power-saving methods to community and people, contributing to the development of the country in general and electricity sector in particular”. About the role of journalism in propaganda, Mrs. Anh Thu emphasized: “Journalism has an important role and considerable impact on people’s life. Therefore, it is absolutely essential to propagandize role models, efficient power-saving models to let the people realize that efficient power saving is significant and practically meaningful, bringing economic benefits to individuals, households and then to all the society”.
Right after the summary and award ceremony, Organizing Committee launched “Nationwide journalism awards for communicative messages on raising awareness of economical and efficient use of energy 2015”. All the works must be published on means of mass media from January 01, 2015 to December 31, 2015.
