Over recent years, Long An Province has remained in the top 10 in terms of foreign investment attraction and competitiveness. Apart from its flexible policies, its attractiveness as an investment destination has been chalked up to the role of Long An Power Company in building a power infrastructure that is second to none.

Obtained results Long An Province is situated in the Southern Key Economic Zone, bordering Ho Chi Minh City, and as such, it enjoys many advantages for attracting foreign investment. The province has 30 Industrial Zones (IZs), of these, 22 IZs operate on a total area of 3,265ha and there are 32 Industrial Complexes (ICs), including 14 ICs currently under operation. With such a high rate of activity, the demand for electricity in industrial production has been on the rise every year.

Deputy Director of Long An PC, Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, said the province’s industrial and construction sectors have seen rapid growth in recent years. Commercial electricity output rose from 1,099 million kWh in 2007, to an estimated 2,877 million kWh this year. The average growth in commercial electricity usage was more than 15 percent. Meanwhile, electricity usage in the industrial and construction sectors grew more than 22 percent.
To meet the high electricity demand, PC Long An has adopted a number of solutions and mobilized all resources to build a power infrastructure for local industrial development. In the 2011-2014 period, the company built 521.3km of medium-voltage transmission lines, 964.13km of low-voltage transmission lines, and a transformer station with a capacity of 90,000 MVA worth a total of VND548 billion. In addition, PC Long An also invested in a number of 110kV transformer stations to ensure power supply for IZs in Duc Hoa, Duc Hue, Tan An and Moc Hoa. The total capital needed for this upgrading work was VND798 billion.

So far, the province has 11 110kV transformer stations with total capacity of 741 MVA. Next year, the province is expected to raise this number to 18 stations with a total installed capacity of 1,199 MVA. As of the end of September 2014, Long An PC had built and managed more than 3,582km of medium pressure transmission lines, 3,254km of low pressure transmission lines, and 5,146 transformer stations of varying types.
Improving power quality and service for industrial production
According to Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, enterprises take many factors into account when investing in Long An, including the power supply capability and power quality. Therefore, in order to address these concerns, his company have not only upgraded and built new grid infrastructure systems, they have also improved the quality and service of power, applied IT solutions to its customer care service, and simplified procedures for power supply to customers (less than 70 days if building medium pressure transformer stations). Every year, the company also organizes customer conferences to share and exchange information and remove difficulties. Each year, they also participate in dialogues with the provincial People’s Committee or Department of Industry and Trade.

Talking about Long An PC’s power supply in Ben Luc IZ, Deputy Director of Thinh Phat Company Truong Cao Cuong said he is completely satisfied with the better quality and service of the local power industry year after year. For example, the power cut-off time has been reduced from 120 hours in 2013 to 60 hours in 2014. In addition, the company advised Thinh Phat Company to upgrade its equipment and production lines to optimize costs./.
