APPLICATION OF LED LAMPS FOR OFF-SHORE FISHING SHIPS IN QUANG TRI PROVINCE THE FIRST SUCCESSFUL JCM DEMONSTRATION PROJECT
Summary
Quang Tri Province has more than 200 offshore fishing ships (capacity from 90 - over 400 CV). However, the lighting technology used in traditional fishing is to use halogen, fluorescent, compact lamps ... mainly Metal Halide lamps (commonly known as HID lamps). With the power rate from 1.000W to 2.500W to attract fish. These types of lamp consume a large quantity of power and emit more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. On average each ship annually consumes about 30,000 liters of diesel oil year, the amount of gas emissions converted about 85.8 00 kg CO2 (one liter of DO oil emitted 2, 86 kg Carbon dioxide). With the support of New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization - NEDO through projects to save energy and improve the efficiency of work with equipment New special technology LEDs (COB) for offshore fishing vessels in Quang Tri , following the JCM ( Joint Crediting Mechanism) with a total investment of about 3,406,596 USD (excluding reciprocal from Vietnam side).
Introduction
With a fleet of ships catching around the province nearly 3,000 boats with a total capacity of more than 70,000 CV, the average catch of aquatic products per year reaches over 25,432.2 tons. The boldly approach to the fishing grounds offshore, clinging to the long sea voyages is the business direction that Quang Tri fishermen are heading to. In addition, the technological innovation and application of scientific and technological advances in fishing to invest and upgrade ships, fishing nets and tools, introduce new trades, train human resources, apply science and technology to capture aquatic and marine products to increase productivity on a means of exploitation, reduce costs and save fuel in order to bring about high efficiency is a problem to be addressed.
Therefore, it is necessary to have an advanced technology to replace the old lighting technologies. Previously, some lamps used LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology applied by Vietnam or some countries such as Korea and China in some provinces such as Nghe An, Binh Dinh ... but they had low efficiency and equipment technology have not yet met the lighting requirements. Department of Science and Technology of Quang Tri and Eternal Technology Energy JSC is supported by NEDO and deploy directly from the company Stanley Electric has implemented successful projects to save energy and improve work efficiency with new special technology LED lamps (COB) for Quang Tri offshore fishing vessels.. The project was implemented under the JCM (Joint crediting mechanism Mechanism) proposed by Japanese government, also known as Bilateral offset credit mechanism (BOCM).
Traditional fishing technology and methods
At present, the lighting technology used in offshore fishing is traditionally dominated by (metal halide high pressure lamps - HID, this is a lamp that consumes a lot of energy) but only 25% of the energy used is useful. These lamps are originated from China, increasing the cost when going to sea, increasing the burden on fishermen, with an average of 8-10 days trips consuming 1,000 liters of DO oil. This is a big cost, besides the use of DO oil will adversely affect the environment, the types of HID lights are very fast, with the headlights (type 10-16 lamps) with the average after 1 -2 months is to be repaired and replaced, while with the side lamps (each vessel has 40 or more), the average is every 6 months. Moreover, because these devices operate in seawater environment, they are easily corroded with luminaries, CB, and frames. The load of the lighting system is high which is active for a long time makes generators easily overloaded, broken, making the cost increases when applying traditional lighting technology.
Implementation stages
The project is implemented in 3 phases:
- Feasibility study period: from 11 / 2014- 10/2015.
- Demonstration stage: from 2/2016 - 1/2017.
- JCM implementation phase: from 3/2017 - 3/2018.
JCM verification section: from 4 / 2018-12 / 2023.
Project results
General results
- About fuel saving: Save 60 - 7 0%, depending on the number of voyage days and distance traveled during the trip.
- Fish catch: No change, however, depending on the angle adjustment of LED lamps to the sea surface.
Technical results
- About luminance: The LED lighting system is bigger than HID lamp, but the power consumption is only one quarter compared to the controlled ship;
- About depth illumination: A LED can reach 40-60 m respectively, while the lamp HID is only 17-30 m;
- About LED flux and HID is equivalent;
- Minimize emissions of greenhouse gases: Use your LED lights consume only 20% fuel compared to the control vessel (lighting). Reducing diesel oil means to reduce the Carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. | - For Vietnam: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions of Carbon dioxide about 886. 5 00 ton CO 2 / 30.000 ships / year (by using LEDs replace the old lamps save DO ) - For Quang Tri : With 1,750 LED lights for 40 vessels reduce 1,048 tons of CO2 |

Some comments
The use of LED technology has many advantages and features that are superior to those of HID lamps currently used by fishermen with high economic efficiency and environmental friendliness.
However, LED lights have a high cost, so the investment in equipment for fishermen is difficult.
Proposal
In the coming time, in order for this technology to be widely applied in light exploitation, it is necessary to coordinate with domestic and foreign companies to produce kinds of catching LED lamps with reasonable prices for fishing.

Continue to study some contents as a scientific basis for applications in fishing such as: uniformity of LED light, adaptation of fish species to LED light spectrum, ... with those advantages over conventional lamps, surely LED technology will be widely used for fishing in combination with light in the near future. Currently the transfer unit has launched a new generation of LED lights (version 4.0 - Table 1).
